Silicone hydrogel lenses were launched worldwide in 1999 and are now being fit on over half of the contact lens wearers in America. At present, we’re embarking on our third generation of products. The combinations of different silicone hydrogel materials, new lens designs and fitting parameters, and optimized spherical aberration correction have revolutionized the way contact lenses are perceived, fit, and worn. This innovative contact lens technology advancement is leading to enhancements in three vital areas: vision performance, patient outcomes, and practice management. Examples of fitting analysis and application of specialty SiHy lenses, through a variety of case presentations, will confirm the value of this overwhelming change in the world of contact wear.
