Though often underdiagnosed, dry eye is commonly a reason why patients visit their eye care professional. As common as the condition may be, many factors play a part in the management of the dry eye patient. Practitioners must consider financial challenges and opportunities, prepare forms (including a patient questionnaire and case history), establish testing and treating protocols, and take care of medical billing, among other things. Overall, eye care practitioners need to understand the opportunity that each dry eye patient brings to their practice and be prepared to adapt their office to meet the needs of these patients (e.g., establishing a dry eye coordinator, modifying schedules, preparing standard forms, and setting up billing and coding). This course will provide an overview of all these areas.
