“They didn’t teach us this in optometry school!” How do some practices have virtually no budget for marketing and, yet, people are lining up to schedule an appointment? It is most likely a topnotch, highly-efficient staff that has complete buy-in to the philosophy of serving patients. This course will discuss how to get staff, keep staff, and have staff coming to you with ways to enhance patient care. Join us as we take a practical look at staffing from two doctors who live daily with the same challenges and staffing issues that you do.

In these financial times, it is still possible to open an optometric practice and flourish. Learn from the experience of others. This course offers the attendee information and insight from two practitioners who have together built eight independent offices, all within the last six years.
The course will cover the leasing process from the landlord (what is negotiable and what is not), contracting the build out (do you want to be the contractor or hire someone), and what equipment is necessary in the beginning and what is a luxury.
Friday, June 26

Function #0220
(Fee: $10)

A successful optometric practice relies on sound financial fundamentals. This course will discuss accounting concepts such as cash flow, gross versus net profits, profit/loss statements, and balance sheets. It will also include topics such as expense categories, tracking your office numbers compared to national optometric data, staff productivity, and contribution margin. The participant will leave with a good basic understanding of the financial aspects of running a practice.
O.D.s and paraoptometrics are encouraged to pre-register for the program. Students may register on-site at the AOSA’s Registration Desk for each course, based on space availability. This program is available thanks to a generous education grant provided by CIBA VISION.
