HOYA returns as the generous sponsor of the Celebration of Optometry on Saturday night. Join your colleagues in Ballroom 6 ABC at the Washington State Convention Center to recognize the 2015-2016 AOA and AOSA boards of trustees. Enjoy the final evening of Optometry's Meeting® with entertainment by comedian and actor Sinbad and artist in action Brian Olsen..

Sinbad arrived on the comedy scene with a “hit’em in the face” style of comedy that has kept audiences laughing in the aisles for more than two decades. He freely admits that he doesn’t know any jokes, except for the ones that his dad told him “back in the day.” Sinbad’s comedy is about stories, and boy does he tell stories! The basis of his humor comes from everyone he meets, everything he’s seen, and everything he’s done.

Ranked by Comedy Central as one of the top 100 standup comedians of all time, Sinbad has built a loyal following by taking audiences’ trials and tribulations of everyday life and causing an uproar of comedic hysteria. He can also make it sound profound without being profane.

Sinbad is internationally known for his starring appearances in hit movies like “Jingle All the Way,” “Houseguest,” and his film debut “Necessary Roughness,” where he did none of his own stunts! Most recently, Sinbad brings to life Roper, an irascible race official full of sly remarks and colorful commentary in Disney’s animation “Planes.” Sinbad has starred in the television sitcom “A Different World” as well as his own series, “The Sinbad Show,” and he appeared on the third season of “The Apprentice.” Sinbad has drawn legions of fans from his highly-rated HBO comedy specials and his annual HBO music concert series. He has even written a self-help book entitled “Sinbad’s Guide to Life: (Because I Know Everything).”

There is one part of Sinbad’s life that has been a well-kept secret…he is a closet nerd. This comes in handy as a Master of Technology during private corporate engagements for clients such as: Intel Corporation, Breakaway Technologies, Apple, and Microsoft as well as many others. He has served as a spokesperson for the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME) encouraging minorities to pursue studies in science, math and engineering.

Brian OlsenPreceding Sinbad on the program will be performance artist Brian Olsen. His Art In Action is an explosion, a colorful display of paint, energy, music, and passion. Using fingertips, palms, elbows, and up to three brushes in each hand, Brian paints large portraits of famous people including musicians, sports figures, and top corporate heads in just a matter of minutes. His creations are choreographed to music that is powerful and stimulates the senses.

Brian’s Art in Action is described as “an emotional experience” taking his audience through an amazing journey of excitement, suspense, cheer, and surprise. The term Speed Painter does not do justice to his ability to captivate his audience and share the experience of color, music, and action in a way that brings people into the world of art and creativity. There is a simple message in Brian’s show: Be yourself, be creative, and take chances. You never know what you might discover. But, whatever it is, do it with all your heart.

You won’t want to miss these delightful performances!
